Imagine sipping a glass of your favourite tipple, surrounded by the best company and enjoying a luxurious atmosphere, an exclusive venue or a stunning panoramic view of the Madrid skyline. It sounds like an indulgence, an unmissable experience, a well-earned holiday break… You’ll be able to find all this and much more in our selection of places to going out for a drink in Madrid that we’ve put together for this guide.

At the Gran Hotel Inglés we appreciate the importance of enjoying a delicious and refreshing drink after a day of sightseeing. We also know that the setting is as important as the quality and taste of the cocktail being savoured, something that we undoubtedly manage to offer with our Lobo 8 restaurant and our LobByto lobby bar.

In this article we recommend some of the finest venues you can choose for a drink in Madrid, to ensure your next drinking excursion in the capital is one to savour.

LobByto (Echegaray, 8)

If we’re talking about the best places for having a drink in Madrid we can’t fail to recommend LobByto, our lobby bar in the heart of the city, which will seduce you with all five senses.

Its outlook will delight with its large windows and its modernist décor, which will transport you back to other eras. Located right in the heart of Barrio de las Letras district, LobByto allows you to savour a delicious culinary offering and a range of memorable cocktails.

We urge you to pay us a visit and allow yourself to be seduced by an old-school dry Martini, a gin and tonic made to the perfect recipe or an “inglés”, our signature house cocktail.

Tartan Roof (Marqués de Casa Riera, 2)

The rooftop terrace at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid boasts one of the most spectacular rooftops in Madrid. From the Círculo’s rooftop you’ll have a perfect panoramic prospect with an unrivalled view of the city centre.

You’ll be able to follow the Gran Vía with your eye, which is even better than completing it on foot, and take stunning photos of some of Madrid’s most famous sights, such as the Metrópolis building, and contemplate Madrid’s rooftops with the Plaza de Cibeles providing the backdrop.

You’ll find two distinct offerings on the rooftop of the Círculo de Bellas Artes: there’s the chance to enjoy the sun loungers in its chill out zone, but there’s also the impressive culinary offering of its restaurant, Tartan Roof.

Macera TallerBar (San Mateo, 21)

Macera TallerBar is an exclusive venue with a retro-industrial atmosphere located in the heart of the Malasaña district. It stands out from the wide variety of bars found in this celebrated part of Madrid because of its delicious spirits, distilled on the premises.

At Macera TallerBar you’ll find a unique and carefree vibe and be able to choose from a wide range of drinks. Special mention should go the house gins, embellished with such finishing touches as red fruit, ginger and cinnamon. Their gin and tonic range is amazing.

El Viajero (Plaza de la Cebada, 11)

El Viajero is one of the most famous watering holes in the Latina district. This is a venue boasting three floors, each with a distinct offering: the ground floor is designed for enjoying a beer and a bite to eat, the central section is a large space with comfortable sofas, which becomes a dancing area as the night progresses, while its rooftop is perfect for enjoying a delicious glass of wine, beer or cocktails accompanied by fine views.

Meriting special mention are its famous mojitos, ideal for cooling off in the summer months, and the impressive views of La Latina and the San Francisco el Grande Royal Basilica in the distance that can be savoured from its rooftop.

The Passenger (Pez, 16)

The Passenger is a bar that will transport you, almost literally, to another era. This idiosyncratic venue in the heart of Malasaña recreates the ambience of the old passenger trains of yesteryear, even boasting screens simulating carriage windows through which you can “observe” the landscape.

During the morning it has an atmosphere dominated by jazz and soul for enjoying a steaming cup of coffee and delicious food made with fresh ingredients. In the evening the venue greets visitors with rock from the 1970s to the present day and 90s hip-hop and house, a perfect setting for enjoying a small but perfectly formed list of beers and a range of high-quality spirits.

Ella Sky Bar (Gran Vía, 42)

Ella Sky Bar is located in the heart of the Gran Vía and has an incredible culinary offering with views to match. From this rooftop you’ll be able to gaze at an impressive panorama that takes in everything from the Cuatro Torres in the north to the Royal Palace, including other sights of the capital such as the neon signs in Callao and the Capitol building.

At Ella Sky Bar you’ll find an interesting culinary offering combining traditional dishes with international options, complemented by a varied range of nibbles to suit all tastes.
