Journalist by training, businesswoman Carmen Cordón Muro is the co-founder, together with her husband Ignacio Jiménez, of Hidden Away Hotels, a family enterprise that counts among its portfolio such brands as Posada Terra Santa and Samaritana Suites, in Palma de Mallorca, and the Gran Hotel Inglés, in Madrid, regarded as the Spanish capital’s coolest boutique hotel. As well as providing accommodation to international stars and playing host to fashion shoots for magazines it is also a favourite meeting point for politicians. “This hotel is the company’s flagship. We always acknowledged Madrid’s attractiveness as a tourist destination and our hotel is an oasis of luxury inspired by the Madrid of the 1920s”, says Cordón. With the challenge of revolutionising the hotel business firmly in mind, the entrepreneur is clear about the strengths of the team she comprises with Jiménez: “Ignacio is an extraordinary manager and executive who has consistently guided us on our path towards a solid and definitive business plan, while I’m a tirelessly creative entrepreneurial spirit”.
The hotel, which has established itself as a lifestyle icon, found in Rockwell Group its interior design partner for lending hospitality and glamour. “When I travel I’m looking for luxury that makes me feel like I’m being cheerfully greeted by the finest host in the city, something we try to achieve with the very best facilities and fittings. This ensures that guests have a distinctive experience they never forget”, confides Cordón. Mission accomplished in light of the fact that, against the backdrop of coronavirus, Hidden Away Hotels is already working on opening a luxury establishment in Granada, “a work of art in the hotel business, located in the Plaza de Triana, a type of hotel hitherto unknown in the district. My husband’s family is from there, which makes it all the more special”, says Cordón, adding, “The pandemic has taken its toll on Spanish companies, particularly those dedicated to tourism. Our speciality moreover is luxury and leisure. We’ve been clear about the social responsibility we feel to keep the business running, carrying out a risk assessment, fine-tuning the company’s finances and maintaining constant and transparent communication with the entire workforce.
