06 May HIDDEN AWAY IS OPENING ITS FIRST HOTEL IN MADRID
“The hotel is currently undergoing complete restoration to transform it into a modern 5-star establishment without losing any of the building’s unique character.”
This coming December, Hidden Away Hotels will be opening the Gran Hotel Inglés in Madrid; located in the cultural, commercial and leisure epicentre of the capital, right in the heart of the Barrio de las Letras and just a few metres away from the Puerta del Sol. More than a year ago, the Spanish company succeeded in acquiring the premises of the iconic building, the oldest hotel establishment in the capital.
The hotel is currently undergoing complete restoration to transform it into a modern 5-star establishment without losing any of the building’s unique character. One of the aspects considered of primary importance in this project is the comfort of the rooms; the previous 72 rooms will be transformed into 48 much more spacious rooms.
The opening of this hotel marks the launch of an ambitious project under the name of Hidden Away Hotels, a chain of hotels with a difference, founded nearly three years ago by Carmen Cordón Muro and Ignacio Jimenez Artacho. Their philosophy is a passion for discovering places with a unique identity of their own, with the desire to restore them to their former splendour after years of neglect.
For Carmen Cordón, a founding partner of Hidden Away Hotels, “A hotel should be a place that exudes the authenticity of the city one is visiting, where unadulterated comfort goes hand in hand with luxury and service of exquisite professionalism. A place where one always feels welcomed as an honoured guest, with a friendliness and attentiveness that define the Spanish character”.
With the Posada Terra Santa boutique hotel in Palma de Mallorca, a refurbished Gothic palace located in the medieval heart of the city, rated as the fifth hotel in the world in Quality of Service in 2015 by Tripadvisor, and the new Gran Hotel Inglés, the company is starting out on its own remarkable mission to create 5-star establishments with an exclusive personality and character
The challenge for Ignacio Jiménez Artacho, CEO of Hidden Away Hotels is to “open the hotel on 16 December, to coincide with the original opening date of the iconic hotel in 1886. The Gran Hotel Inglés will also include a culinary offering of the highest level catered for by a renowned chef”.
